GO to START>RUN>type msconfig> a window will pop up click the "tab" at top says "start up">uncheck the ones you dont running when computer starts>save>restart computer. hope that helps
also download AVG FREE EDITION search for it and you will find it. or download SUPERANTISPYWARE
To get rid of it completly, go to download.com and get superantispyware and ccleaner. Both will cleanup your system in different areas and get rid of all the junk.
ANTIVIRUS 2008 is a rogue program run smitfraud removal tool:

Use Spybot Search & Destroy or Rogue Remover – both free here

I would download Spybot Search And Destroy from the Spybot site. Usually works for me when ever I get a little nasty like this on my PC. Spybot is free and is very good. If and when you get more advanced at using it, you can use it to clean your registry up and disable any programes from starting up and / or re enable them again. when you have installed spybot and all of the updates are installed, disconect your pc from the net then run Spybot…restart your PC but do not connect to the web as some of these Adware / Spywares just re install as soon as you delete them due to there being a web connection. Make sure it has gone completely by restarting another one or two more times. If all is good….go back on line.
It is a fake piece of software, that claims to be anti-virus, but has actually infected your computer. Never email or write to these companies (or people who send you spam, for that instance): you will just get added to spam lists, or be completely ignored. Why should they help you? If they were going to help you, why would they try to scam you in the first place? They won’t be concerned at all by your threats, if they even read their email.
To get rid of it, download the following:
Avira: http://www.free-av.com/ (if you don’t have anti-virus, or if you have Norton or AVG replace it with this)
Spyware Terminator (turn off web security guard): http://www.spywareterminator.com/
Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/ (use immunise feature)
Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/
Comodo: http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/ (turn off defense+ to see fewer alerts)
Update all and scan your computer, removing or quarantining what is found.
In future, do not click on adverts, and do not download from dodgy websites promising free stuff that you have to pay for elsewhere.
Use firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/ and the AdBlock extension (http://tinyurl.com/2cd87q ) and whatever other useful extensions like Download Statusbar you want.
try manual removal instructions

i recommend removing antivirus 2008 manually. this malware is pretty new, that’s why most of antispyware can’t locate nor delete it. use this removal tutorial to delete antivirus2008: http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-antivirus2008.html
the company won’t reply because this program is fraudulent and it is a part of scam to gain money. i bet there’s no company on that name.
Antivirus 2008 is a rogue anti-spyware program that purposesly displays false positives and misleading scan results as a tactic to scare you into purchasing their software. It goes without saying that you should not purchase it. If you did mistakenly purchase it, then call your credit card company and cancel the charge stating it is a scam/fraudulent.
A free guide that does not require you to purchase any software to remove Antivirus 2008 can be found below:

If you see a guide asking you to install Xoftspy or SpyHunter, simply ignore them. Those programs require you to purchase them before they will remove anything.
